Sir Lluwyn of Haber
Knight of Bevon Manor, Melylim Hundred, Vemionshire, Kingdom of Kaldor.

Sir Lluwyn
Lluwyn is a man who knows his limitations – and his strengths. He is a man of hidden passions, but true purposes. His word is his bond – but he rarely gives it.
His features are not unloverly, but his bright blue eyes are somewhat startling given his otherwise dark complexion.

Clan Haber
Clan Haber are an ancient Vemion clan, who have held lands in west Vemion since time immemorial. The Clan has survived many changes of overlord, but are loyal to the Earl of Vemion.

Clan Haber, and their vassals, are worshipers of Ilvir and Peoni. Ancient Vemion tradition describes the two deities as the Father and Mother of all creation. Larani is seen as the Daughter of Spring. The Clan is well known throughout Vemionshire for its knowledge and expertise in matters of herblore.

Sir Lluwyn’s younger brother, Sir Alwyn, is the clanhead. Sir Lluwyn’s father, Sir Bemyl named Sir Alwyn has his heir, and Sir Lluwyn did not object – indeed he supported his father’s decision, as it was clear that Sir Alwyn had a considerable talent in the management of the clan estate.

Vemionshire
Vemionshire has a distinct history and culture within wider Kaldorian society. Vemion culture is heavily influenced by Jarin tradition. The region around Bevon Manor is particularly traditional, with many ancient folkways being preserved which in other areas have been superseded by more modern Kaldorian ways of life.

Bevon Manor

Bevon Manor lies in the far west of Vemionshire, well nigh to the Fens of Kythlim Hundred. It has a total population of around 200 souls.

The Manor has 1,760 acres of good quality land (LQ 1.03). There are a total of 40 households, including Clan Haber, and 5 additional freeholders. The Manor has a net annual income of approximately 1,800, half of which is owed to the Constable at Zoben.

The Clan earn additional income from trade in herbs and other materials sourced from the Fens (see below). In this way they are able to support more than one knight.

The Fens
As noted above, Clan Haber have links to the Fenlanders, a loose confederation of people living in the Fens of Kythlim Hundred in Vemionshire, and Rethelsyne in Thelshire. Bevon Manor lies only 5 leagues from the uppermost reaches of the Kythlim Fens.

The Clan do profit to a considerable extent from their links with the Fenlanders. The Clan trades with the Fenlanders, providing them with access to goods which they could not otherwise manufacture. In return, the Clan is assured of a good supply of many of the herbs which for which it is justly famous.

Clan Haber are circumspect in their relations with the Fenlanders. They do not reveal their links to individuals outside the clan, including their liege, the Earl of Vemion. Most outsiders suppose that the Clan gathers the herbs and other materials it sells itself.

Sir Lluwyn has spent more time amongst the Fenlanders than perhaps any other outsider. He is well regarded by the valkara of the Fenlander village closest to Bevon Manor. She is aware of Sir Lluwyn’s secret (see right), but has no reason to make it an issue.

The Secret
Sir Lluwyn bears a secret. While it was not the sole reason for his father passing him over in favour of naming Sir Alwyn as his heir, it was a significant factor.

Suffice to say, Sir Lluwyn is not interested in the fairer sex. Sir Lluwyn’s clan are not particularly troubled by his secret – but the likelihood that he would not produce an heir himself was of concern.

Fairing Forth
Sir Lluwyn’s interests have, however, always seemed to lie beyond the narrow confines of Bevon Manor and Melylim Hundred. In his early years his quiet persistence proved useful in dealings with the Fenlanders – perhaps they sensed that he too was an outsider.

Sir Bemyl passed away in TR 717, and Sir Alwyn has been responsible for the Manor since that time. Sir Alwyn has valued his brother’s advice and support during these last few years.
Sir Lluwyn has recently decided that he should give his younger brother room to assert his authority. There are still some in the region who find it odd that Sir Lluwyn was passed over, and a short absence will give Sir Alwyn time to demonstrate that he is, in fact, more than capable of managing the Manor. In any case, Lady Marthel, Sir Lluwyn’s mother and a well known expert on matters herbal and indeed of all living things, is on hand to support her younger son.
Sir Lluwyn has therefore made his way to Kiban, for the newly announced Tournament.
