The king isolates himself from almost everybody, and it seems that Troda Dariune is the only man he trusts. His illness also gets worse, and he appoints Troda as his regent during his illness, publically stating that the earl of Kiban is the only person besides the king suited to rule Kaldor. He does continue to see Erila though, and she actually gets pregnant a second time.
When he hears about the pregnancy he is outraged, and declares that he doesn't intend to acknowledge the child. Erila states very clearly to the king that she is fed up with having half a relationship, and that she will leave him if he doesn't give their child his name. She prepares a move to Chybisa, but delays it since the king gets sicker than usual.
During this time of despair, it seems that Troda Dariune is the only person able to support both the king and the lord privy seal.
Getting sicker and sicker, Miginath finally calls for Erila, and offers to marry her if he gets well enough to manage the ceremony. Maybe the king thinks that his time had come anyway, and that it is pointless to try to resist Naveh in this fashion. Maybe he loves Erila more than he fears the Lord of Nightmares. We will never know...
Soon after his proposal, the king begins to recover from the worst of his ailments, and two months later, he decides that it is time to prepare for the wedding. It takes place in the early autumn, in the Larani temple in Tashal, but in the end of the ceremony two hooded men in black appears from a hideout in the temple and attacks the king. One is killed by the guards, and the other one by the kings new wife, but it is to late, and the king dies there in his own wedding. The wedding is judged to be accomplished though, so Kaldor has a queen.
