Map 15 Strategy Notes
Strategy notes assume the "A" is placed in the lower left corner.

Victory Map

This map invites comparisons to the central region of Italy, with long, uninterrupted coastlines running north south on each edge.  Dotted with forests, lakes and rivers, it will provide both attackers and defenders with many opportunities for skillful play.

Attack
In attacking from the north, Manoletta is likely to be the first city to be attacked as it is so easily accessible from three hexsides to the north.  Once this city is taken, it’s a short two hexes to Tervoli, although with the forest and river, the terrain become much more of a factor at this point.  A less conventional attack might be to sail down the coast and attack Alta Caltari.  An amphibious assault camouflaged as simple naval support, along with an airborne units could easily succeed if this city is left relatively unguarded.  If successful, this city would make an excellent base for an attack on Tripolzio, especially if combined with a more conventional land based attack from the north.  From the south, a combined land/sea assault on Alta Caltari or even Mercatorio is probably the best option.  Be careful of units getting trapped in the Laguna di Obanto.  In any case, despite the likelihood that it will be heavily guarded, Tripolzio is likely going to be an early target if attacking from the north or the south.

Defense
From the north, the Orio river makes a natural boundary.  A good strategy will be to block the Laguna di Obanto to limit naval support to it’s towns and cities.  Another good place to block is the area near the Golfo di Giola, this will guard the east coast from additional enemy naval activity.  From the south, the Laguna di Obanto and the Obanto river make another natural boundary.  If you can contain your opponent behind that frontier, you severely limit his ability to make any gains.  In addition, should Tripolzio come under attack, the best strategy at that point would be to cut his supply.  He will be deep in your territory and his flanks will necessarily be relatively long.
