Map 16 Strategy Notes
Strategy notes assume the "A" is placed in the lower left corner.

Victory Map

This map contains the ultimate prize – the four production point city of Asmarum.  It would be foolish to disregard the other cities, however, as their isolation makes them ideal candidates to be picked off one by one . . . However, there are only 9 total points on the map instead of the usual 10.

Attack
From the north, an amphibious assault on several fronts will be necessary to gain a foothold on the land mass.  Rijson and Ozendaal are somewhat isolated from the other cities, and might be somewhat easier to capture than the others, especially if the roads leading to them are blocked by naval units.  This isolation also means that it will also be harder to continue with an attack on Asmarum.  From the south, Baasdam is an obvious first target.  It is separated from the rest by the narrow isthmus guarded by the town of Rijmeeran.  Once Baasdam is captured, it may be wiser to feint an attack on Rijmeeran and bypass it with an amphibious attack to the east or west.  Once isolated, it can be captured later to secure the supply line.

Defense
From the north, the defender should guard every city and town within range of the enemy.  In addition, watch for attempts to blockade the coastal roads, as the inability to reinforce a city can be disasterous.  If playing with the elite blockset, use torpedo bombers to harass the enemy at sea before he can land.  From the south, be sure to guard all the towns and cities south of the Wolden Zee and Lijvelmeer.  Do not allow the enemy to get a foothold north of Rijmeeran.  Obviously, Rijmeeran is very important, but don’t allow the enemy to easily bypass it instead.  In both cases, Asmarum is of prime importance – if it falls, your game is essentially over.
